Rising anxiety. Mood swings. Attention challenges. Gut issues. If it seems like every other kid is struggling right now, you’re not wrong. But there is hope—and it starts with radical responsibility.
What We’re Seeing: Rising Needs in Student Health
When it comes to student health, what we are seeing across our clinic and the country is a growing number of parents are voicing concerns about their children’s health:
- “My child can’t focus”
- “Their energy crashes halfway through the day”
- “They’re anxious, mood,y or constantly sick”
- “We’re trying everything, but nothing sticks”
- “My child is struggling to retain new information”
From attention challenges and behavioral issues, to chronic digestive problems, mood instability, and academic or athletic underperformance, to a rise in ASD cases, childhood obesity and type 2 diabetes, It’s clear: our childrens health is under threat, and so is their abilty to thrive. At the root of many of these concerns? Poor nutrition, environmental toxin overload, and unhealthy lifestyle habits that all undermine optimal brain and body development and health. Our children our the future. As society, parents, educators, and healthcare practitioners we all share a collective responsibility to provide our children with the foundational support they need. The most important foundation, is the food our children consume.
Our Children Are at Risk, But We Have the Tools to Change It
Let’s be honest: our school syetems, healthcare institutions, and even many many homes are failing children nutritionally. Cereal for breakfast. Pizza and chocolate milk for lunch. Neon-colored snacks after school. And we wonder why anxiety, ADHD, autoimmune conditions, learning struggles, blood sugar issues, even cancers are exploding.
Even worse, we’ve normalized it.
As functional medicine and nutrition practitioners, we’re not just frustrated, we are fired up! We’re done with:
- Neurotoxic dyes in foods
- Chemical laden snack foods
- Nutrient poor school lunches
- Candy “rewards” from pediatricians
- Medications for focus while ignoring what kids had for breakfast
- Total denial of food’s impact on behavior and brain development.
And yes- we’re done with the “it’s just once in while” mindset. Because the truth is: it’s all the time! Birthday parties. Sports practices. Snack tables. Doctors’ and dentists’ offices. Processed, dyed, ultra-sugared food is everywhere. We are not here to shame. We are here to wake up. Because the research is clear. The damage is real. And the solution starts at home. You cannot out-supplement a toxic lifestyle. You can’t build a resilient brain on sugar, chemicals and seed oils.
