Spring Cleaning for Allergy Relief:
A clean home is a happy (and allergy-free) home. Spring cleaning can significantly reduce your allergen exposure, but be mindful of the products you use in your home.
Many of the cleaning products on the market today are full of powerful, but potentially harmful chemicals. Many everyday products may release hundreds of hazardous volatile organic compounds, known as VOCs. These VOCs can cause difficulty breathing and nausea, and all are known to interfere with cell membranes and be neurotoxic; they may also cause cancer. Many common household cleaning products are also endocrine disruptors. This means the chemicals in many cleaning products interfere with the body’s endocrine system, which is responsible for producing and regulating hormones. Endocrine-disrupting chemicals can mimic, block, or interfere with hormones and lead to negative health implications.
While it’s nearly impossible in today’s modern world to completely avoid toxins, being cautious about the products you use in your home and on your body can reduce your exposure to toxins and increase your body’s threshold.
This spring, try a fresh approach by integrating natural solutions into your spring-cleaning routin
- Change your HVAC filter: These should be changed regularly throughout the year, but you’ll want to replace them before you start your spring deep clean. Decluttering and dusting can kick up all sorts of things you don’t want to breathe in.
- Non-toxic Cleaning: Switching to natural cleaning products minimizes exposure to harsh chemicals that can irritate airways and worsen allergy symptoms. Here are some of our favorite essential oil cleaning solutions. You can check the status of your home cleaning products
- HEPA Vacuuming: Investing in a HEPA vacuum is crucial for removing microscopic dust mites and pollen that hide deep within carpets and upholstery.
- Air Quality Monitoring: Breathing clean air is essential! Indoor air can sometimes be worse than outdoors, especially for allergy sufferers. Air purification is foundational, especially if you suspect mold issues. We recommend i-Adapt Air Oasis. iAdaptAir offers comprehensive air purification by both filtering and sanitizing various contaminants including mold, pollen, dust, and dander. It absorbs pet and chemical odors, biotoxins, and volatile organic compounds (VOCs) and filters and sterilizes common bacteria and viruses, as well as airborne dust and smoke, ensuring a cleaner and healthier environment.
- Mold Identification and Removal: Many of you know we are sticklers when it comes to mold exposures. Mold growth in your home can be a major indoor allergen contributor and have more significant health implications. Mold doesn’t act alone either; this is why we recommended assessing the home annually for mold, mold-loving bacteria, and beta-glucans. If these biotoxins are found in the home your next step is to reach out to an indoor environmental specialist for proper and safe remediation. Read more about cleaning techniques for mold and other biotoxins found in water-damaged buildings.
When we address from both the inside out and the outside in, we reduce our exposure to environmental chemicals and allergens, and we support our body’s natural immune and inflammatory responses and digestive health; you can effectively manage symptoms and enjoy a vibrant and healthy spring season!

Breaking Free from Conventional Healthcare: A Journey to True Wellness
A traditional healthcare approach often focuses on treating your symptoms, not the person. You’re a list of diagnoses, not a unique individual with a complex story. But what if there was a different way? A functional and holistic healthcare approach views your body as an interconnected ecosystem. It’s about detective work – identifying the root causes of your health issues, not just masking them with medication. Imagine understanding the “why” behind your fatigue, your digestive problems, or your anxiety. This is the power of personalized care, and it starts with understanding your body’s unique needs.
